The World of Sandra Cisneros
by
Delia DeCourcy

Growing up with a Chicano mother and Mexican father in a transient family that moved between Mexico and Chicago, Sandra Cisneros had unique experiences that influenced her writing.  Her passion for writing developed as an outlet for her emotional stress and sense of herself as an outsider.  Yet it was not until she attended the University of Iowa’s Writers Workshop that she came to realize her experiences and perspective as a Chicana woman were vastly different from her U.S. classmates.
