Awaking in New York
Curtains forcing their will
Children sleep,
Exchanging dreams with
Seraphim. The city
Drags itself awake on
Subway straps; and
I, an alarm, awake as a
Rumor of war,
Lie stretching into dawn
Unasked and unheeded

Awaking in
Paradise
My
canopy dances with the beat of the wind
As it blows in my window like a tropical waterfall
Rushes to its end.
As I dream in my sleep, I picture
Being served fresh grapes just picked off of the vine,
And orange juice moments after, also being fanned like a
Queen in a palace.
The island drags it’s self-awake slow as a slug,
But it take’s an alarm to awake me
As I get up I look to my canopy
I see no dancing
I get no grapes
And I am rather hot.

They Ask Why
A certain person wondered why
a big strong girl like me
wouldn’t keep a normal salary.
I took my time to lead her
and to
read her every page.
Even minimal people
can’t survive on minimal wage.
A certain person wondered why
I wait
all week for you.
I didn’t have the words
to describe just what to do.
I said you had the motion
of the ocean in your walk,
and when you solve my riddles
you don’t even have to talk.

He Ask Why
A certain person wondered why
A little girl like me
Didn't want to gain a pound
But she wrote it in her diary
So I took my time to lead her
Even taught her how to sing
And helped her tie her shoes.
A
certain person wondered why
I helped this girl survive
I didn't have the words to say
So I got on my knees and cried
I said you would never understand
Cause your just a plain ole' man
You would never take the time to realize
That this is your number one fan!
