“Mysterious” Diana

Even when I was in pre- school my teacher called me “Diana, Goddess of the Hunt”.  When I was first called this I gave my teacher a weird look and immediately took it as an insult. I wanted my name to be light and feminine but the image of “hunt” seems to be extremely dark and masculine! I never quite understood what she meant by this. After a few years of maturing I finally understood that I was actually named after the Goddess of the Hunt: Diana! No matter what I am called, all I know is that I love my name and I never intend to change it!

Before I was born my parents thought of naming me Lillian Bloom, but then after a while of thinking it over they realized that I would be made fun of in school. Kids would call me “Lily Bloom” and snicker!
Quite often I am called Diane by mistake. Although, I usually just let it slide.  In fact one time, I was even told that when I get older I should change my name to Diane. When the name Diane pops up in my mind I quickly infer that Diane must be some uptight old lady.  Diana, on the other hand, is the cute young girl with a tad of mystery!
I can’t even remember the last time I heard my father call me Diana.  He has always called me “Girly” from the time I was born.   My mother has always been known to call me exceptionally weird names like “Fur Ball” and “Nasser” but she usually just sticks to calling me “Nussie”.  But, most of these names that my parents call me aren’t nearly as bad as what my brother Max is called! My mother mostly calls him “Dude” and he has even been called “maxi-pad” once or twice by the elementary school bullies!
My brother and I would always visit my elderly neighbor when we were little, and she always called me Elizabeth.  I was only about four years old, and how would I deny to the poor old lady that my name wasn’t Elizabeth.
But my most recent nickname would have to be bloomy.  I have no idea how this was developed but one day a few of my friends decided to call me bloomy.  I actually really enjoy this name because I think it’s extremely cute and makes me very unique.
I had never known any one with the same name as me.  When I found out last year that there were also two other Dianas in my school, I was kind of shocked.

Well, you don’t really find many famous Diana’s out there except for the fabulous diva Diana Ross and the famous Princess Diana!

I am very thankful that I am not named Roy Samuel Bloom.  This was the absolutely hideous name that my parents were planning on naming me if I was a boy.  My parents definitely had an extremely hard time agreeing on my name.  My dad always wanted to name me Adele or Andrea but my mom refused and insisted on Edith, a more traditional name (my grandmother’s name) than one night the ‘beautiful’ name Diana came to mind.
