Lullaby
Eve Merriam

Purple,
Purple,
Twilight
Sky light.

Purple as a king's cape
Purple as a grape.

Purple for the evening
When daylight is leaving.

Soft and purry,
Gentle and furry,
Velvet evening-time.

Purple,
Purple.
Sky light
Goodbye light.

Dusky
Musky
Into night.
Weather
Eve Merriam
Dot a dot dot dot a dot dot
Spotting the windowpane.

Spack a spack speck flick a flack fleck
Freckling the windowpane.

A spatter a scatter a wet cat a clatter
A splatter a rumble outside.

Umbrella umbrella umbrella umbrella
Bumbershoot barrel of rain.

Slosh a galosh slosh a galosh
Slither and slather a glide

A puddle a jump a puddle a jump
A puddle a jump puddle splosh

A juddle a pump a luddle a dump
A pudmuddle jump in and slide!

I Like this poem for multiple reasons but mostly because of its down to earth subject matter and the fact that it is a simple reading. This poem is definitely about the color purple even though the title would lead to believe otherwise. I think that the title comes from all the relates to nighttime such as goodbye light or into night. Also I think everything described would be found in a dream. This poem was made to be read to a young child before sleeping. It is a very soothing and fun poem with good short descriptions. That is why I like this poem. This poem is very childish in language. She uses a lot of made up words such as juddle or spack. These seem like word that a child would use to me. This poem also talks about puddle jumping and sploshing which i relate to walking in the rain hints the title "Weather". This poem to me is very easy to under stand even though of its tongue twisting language. It is a very simplistic poem using many poetic elements. That is why this poem even so simple as it is can express so many emotions with out concisely relishing it.
