Eve Merriam Eve Merriam is a play write director but most famously a poet. Most of Eve’s poetry is aimed for young adults even though she has written many children’s books. She was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania in 1916. She went to Cornell University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Wisconsin, Columbia University, and has taught and lectured at many other institutions. Eve (like most old people) has had many controversial times. Such as Inner City Mother Goose (1971) which was the basis for the Broadway musical Inner City and Sweet Dreams (1982). She has referred to her book Inner City Mother Goose as being one of the most banned books in America. In 1981 she won the NCTE award for best poet. Unfortunately she lost her life to old age in 1992 my wishes go out to her. |
