I Want To Be
By Thylias Moss

I want to be wise but not so wise that I can't learn anything.

I want to be tall but not so tall that nothing is above me.

I want to be still but not so still that I turn into a mannequin or get mistaken for a tree.

I want to be in motion but I want the ants in my pants to sometimes take a vacation.

Sometimes I want to be slow but not so slow that everything passes me by.

Sometimes I want to be small but not so small that I am easy to miss.

Sometimes I want to be invisible but not gone.

I want to be all the people I know, then I want to know more people so I can be them too. Then they can all be me.

I want to be eyes looking, looking everywhere.

I want to be ears hearing, hearing everything.

I want to be hands touching, touching everything.

I want to be mouth tasting, tasting everything.

I want to be heart feeling, feeling everything.

I want to be life doing, doing everything.

I Want To Be
By Kathryn Holt
Inspired by Thylias Moss

I want to be strong but not so strong that I don’t care.

I want to be kind but not so kind that there is no fault.

I want to be bright but not so bright that I burn myself out.

I want to be active but not so much that I can never think.

I want to be heard but not so much so that no one thinks for themselves.

Sometimes I want to world to slow down but not so slow that I am allowed to catch my breath.

I want to be little but not so little that I become invisible.

I want to be a star looking, looking down from heaven.

I want to be people knowing, knowing everything.

I want to be life living, living forever.

All is not lost when dreams are
By Thylias Moss
1.
The dreams float like votive lilies
then melt.

It is the way they sing
going down that I envy and to hear it.

I could not rescue them. A dirge
reaches my ears like a corkscrew of smoke
And it sits behind my eyes like a piano roll
Some say this is miracle water
None say dreams made it so

2.
Long ago a fish forgot what fins were good for
And flew out of the stream
It was not dreaming
It had no ambition but confusion

In Nova Scotia it lies on ice in the sun
and its eye turns white and pops out like a pearl
when it's broiled

The Titanic is the one that got away.

Shattered Dreams
By Kathryn Holt
Inspired by Thylias Moss.
1.
Dreams float like flowers on top of the water
Then fall away.

It is the way that they dance
Swirling and twirling with such grace that I envy

I cannot recall them. Not now that they have been lost.

And fallen away like all hopes and dreams eventually do,

broken like glass

Shattered, pieces strewn across the floor.

2.
Many years ago a star forgot its place in the vastness of space.

With all its might it came to where it stands today

It was not dreaming
It was lost.
That star now gives us life
Warmth
Light
