Nature of Music

The Nature of Music
By: Rodrigo Haragutchi

The conductor raises his hands,
The players get ready to play their graceful song,
Their bows up in the air like cattails in the creek.

With a swift motion of the conductor’s hands,
A loud thunderstorm begins,
The powerful sound of the thunder and pelting rain can be heard
The bows flash up and down.

 Another swift motion of hands,
The orchestra begins to decrescendo,
Slowly the loud thunderstorm begins to calm itself.
With the legato sound of the instruments, the sun comes out.
The animals begin to crawl out of hiding.

Once more the conductor’s hands move like birds in the sky,
Trees and bushes suddenly bloom,
The orchestra’s allegro sound shows a new sense of life,
The sound of the birds can be heard in the distance.

With one more movement of the conductor’s hands,
The field begins to darken ever so slowly.
With the dimuendo of the instruments,
The day finally fades away into darkness.

Rain Drop
By: Rodrigo Haragutchi

Falling along with my brothers.
As quickly as I can,
I fly to the ground,
Faster and faster I go.
Falling, Falling.

Suddenly,
Splat!
I collide against the ground,
And get spread around all over.

Slowly I crawl along the floor,
To join my brothers,
Who are already running towards the ocean.

Kite Flying at the Beach
By: Rodrigo Haragutchi

 I run across the beach,
The roll of string in my hand,
My kite soars into the naked sky.

In the air,
The kite soars from side to side,
Constantly tugging at the line.

Standing there with my kite,
It’s tail lashing out to the side,
There is a constant sharp smell in the air
Like small knives in my nose.
The smell of the salty sea floats in the air.

I feel as if needles are piercing my legs,
I look down to see what stings so harshly
I realize it is merely the sand blowing in the wind

As I reel in my kite,
And carry it back home
I can feel the sand in between my toes.
