Home Sweet Home
By: Tiffany Alexy

The creamy corn pudding
The baked pumpkin pies
The aroma of cinnamon
The homemade macaroni and cheese
And the BW3's restaurant
All mark time well spent in Ohio

The list could go on and on about our family traditions
Friends and more family coming over,
Going SHOPPING!
And then watching movies and playing ping-pong.

Going to Ohio is like taking a visit back to my old house
I know my way around
And it's like my "home away from home"
It feels like I know every blade of grass
On the expansive front lawn.

I know every nook and cranny in the old Sienna mini-van
And the well-cushioned leather in the astounding red Infinity
The smooth tiles on the kitchen floor
And the sweet smelling spice cabinet, full of delights.

I think that is why Thanksgiving is my favorite time of year
Because you get to visit with family and hang out
And of course, there's always a ton of food to eat!

Oh and by the way...
You can't forget their cat, Shella.
She is a witch and will attack you if you go near her
Good thing she doesn't have claws!

I'm just a penny
By: Tiffany Alexy

I'm just a penny
Orange-copper in color
Newly minted

I stare into the sky
The high-arched ceiling
The shelves of books
And finally, a sweaty palm
Grasping my cold surface.

As I leave my fellow coin mates,
I yell, "Good-bye forever! Hope to see you soon!"
It's a good thing that those humans can't hear us
That would be a disaster

Now I am being tossed,
Dropped,
Stepped on.

I get it now.
I'm just a penny, that's all.
