| Analytical Paragraph On “One Train May Hide Another” By: Scott LaChapelle

In “One Train
May Hide Another” Kenneth Koch, explores the theme of how anything can hide
something else. Most of the poem describes specific overall examples of
this, but the overall message is that you can never make a decision about
anything the first time you look at it. He gives so many examples of things
that can hide other things in the poem, that it kind of makes a point that
anything can hide something, and that you’ll soon find that out if you’re
not careful. At the end of the poem, Koch says, “It/
can be important/ to have waited at least a moment to see what was already
there.” In saying this, he tells the reader that you should “look before
you leap,” which adds to the poem’s overall message because it warns you of
hidden things.. Koch tells the reader that many things and ideas, such as
people, places, and everyday objects are concealed, and that you can’t just
spot them the first time you look. He also tells the reader that you can’t
trust first impressions. The poem
“One Train May
Hide Another” is a wonderful poem, with a deep meaning.
