Lamp

I shine
I shine oh so bright
Lighting up the room
Lighting up the sky
Lighting up the world .

My face is shiny;
A huge nose
That makes me shine
And makes me glow.

I’ve got a body of wood
That holds me up
So I don’t fall.

I can be unplugged
And I won’t smile.
Everything will seem dark
I wouldn’t want to be dark
Like the night sky.

I’d want to shine;
To show the world who I am
To be happy and cheerful
And make everyone around me
Happy and cheerful
Like a lamp should.

The Real Meaning of Love

It’s the feel of the ball
In your glove
When you catch it,
And the whisper
Your arm makes
When you throw,
Getting the girl out at second.

The sweet sent,
From the grass
While diving to catch
A ball in the outfield.

It’s the ump yelling “you’re out”
And feeling the sticky sweat
Stream down your face,
Running to the dug out.

It’s the grip on your bat
And the pain of the popping blisters,
As you take your practice swing.

It’s the swish of the bat,
As you swing and miss
The yell of the ump
“strike one.”

It’s the crack of the whip,
As you hit the ball
Sending it soaring over the heads
Of the outfielders.

It’s the clomping of your cleats
Hitting the ground,
As you round first.

It’s the cheering and chanting
Of your team and the crowd,
As you hit second,
Take a left,
And tag third.

It’s the taste of the dust
Rising over you,
Sliding into home
And the feel of you body
Over home plate.

The voice of the ump yelling
“SAFE,”
And the excited of your team
When you win the game.

And finally, it’s the shock
On the faces of the disbelievers,
When you prove yourself
To them.

Mailbox of Hope

Hope is the mailbox of life
Waiting for a letter
From a friend or a loved one.
The letter of acceptance,
The letter of success
Or the letter of love.

But sometimes you must anticipate the mail,
For it could hold failure
Or fear
Or even death.

The mailbox doesn’t show what you need
Yet holds your wishes and dreams
A mailbox hides the pain and joy

Until you’re ready for it
