On A Wedding Anniversary
Dylan Thomas

The sky torn across
This ragged anniversary of two
Who moved for three years in tune
Down the long walks of their vows

Now their love lies a loss
And Love and his patients roar on chain;
From every true or crater
Carrying cloud, Death strikes their house.

Too late in the wrong rain
They come together whom their love parted:
The windows pour into their heart
And the doors burn in their brain.

Friends Forever or So They Say
(Inspired by On A Wedding Anniversary By Dylan Thomas)

The sky torn across
This ragged anniversary of two
Two best friends
Two ex-best friends.

They hadn’t seen each other
After their falling out.
They lost touch
After they lost each other.
It was a dark day
When one lied to the other.

One apologized
But it was too late
And now, they see each other
For the first time,
In what seems like forever
And all they can do is stare,
Remembering the good times.

They smile,
A sly smile,
Without saying a word
And keep walking;
Not looking back.
Just keeping on
With their lives.
A friendship has died

Because of one lie.

I Have Longed To Move Away
Dylan Thomas

I have longed to move away
From the hissing of the spent lie
And the old terrors’ continual cry
Growing over the hill into the deep sea;
I have longed to move away
From the repetition of salutes,
From there are ghosts in the air
And ghostly echoes on the paper,
And the thunder of calls and notes.

I have longed to move away but am afraid;
Some life, yet upspent, might explode
Out of the old lie burning on the ground,
And, crackling into the air, leave me half-blind.
Neither be nights ancient fear,
The parting of hat from hair,
Pursed lips at the receiver,
Shall I fall to death’s feather.
By there I would not care to die,
Half convention and half lie.

Leaving the Life You Know
(Inspired by I Have Longed To Move Away By Dylan Thomas)

Leaving the life you know,
The one thing I’ve dreamed of
To leave everything behind
Just drop it, and
move away;
Starting everything new.
I want to leave the life I know
And move on forever
To disappear
Into my fearful past.

To forget the lies
Forget the tears
And everything I fear.
To forget what people say
And forget the way I feel.
Forget the rumors
And forget the cruelty.
Forget the warm feeling
When you’ve down something
Wrong,
And forget the fear you get
When seeing that person’s face.
Forget the pain that comes with
The tears
And the smiles that leave
When they should stay.

To leave my home
And start a new adventure
Into the unknown.
To start a new chapter in the book
And finally leave
This lie of a life.
