Taking Flight
By Mazin Khoury

Sitting, staring, nothing to do,
I look around me but all I see are the clouds,
White, fluffy, tender and sweet,
They are watching me.

Daydreaming in class, like floating in mid air,
Nothing can hold me down,
Nothing holding me up,
Yet I stay above the rest.

In a flash, all I can see is a vague image of a brown brick building,
A grey title in its entrance.
Vast green fields surround it.

Chattering, whispering, and sighs I hear,
And the sound of increasing joy.

I lift my head,
Higher and higher til I realize where I am.
Desks, chairs, and a blackboard come in to sight.
The bell sounds and I am dismissed to my next flight.

Papa to Son
By Mazin Khoury

Hey Son, it’s time we have this talk,
I am sick of your talking,
And mouthing off at me.

Your Mom and I have decided,
It’s time for military school.
I know this is rough,
But it’s the only way.

All your
               Childish
                         remarks
Your
                                   tricks
Your
                                          pranks.

It’s time for payback.
See you later,
Maybe in another life,

Don’t miss us too much.

Nacho Cheese
By Mazin Khoury

Hot, like the dessert sand,
Against,
              My,
                        Feet.
Yellow like the blazing sun,
Creamy,
             And,
                        Delicious.
I shove it into my mouth,
More,
             And,
                        More.
The taste unbearable,
Can’t,
             Stop,
                        Myself.
The chips crisp,
Crunch,
             Crunch,
                         Crunch.
The plastic container is now,
Empty,
             Clear,
                        Gone.
Joy is,
Over,
            Over,
                        Over.
