New York & Vienna (1890 - 1910) |
Project:
New York and Vienna
at the Turn of the Century
(1890 - 1910)
Project Participants:
| 3A der PMS der Dominikanerinnen Vienna, Austria |
8th grade German class (Intermediate Low, 3rd year) Cary Academy Cary, NC USA |
Project Goal:
Students will produce a website together on the topic of New York and Vienna
at the Turn of the Century (1890 - 1910).
The layout should be in the form of 2 newspapers based on those that existed at
the time in each of the cities. Both newspapers should be bilingual, having an
English and German version. Students should recognize in the realms of the
project, the challenges and advantages of international cooperation through the
web while learning about the historical, cultural and societal background of an
English-speaking and German-speaking city.
Project Design:
Project participants will be assigned to project groups consisting of 1-2
Austrian students and 1-2 American students, whereby each group will work on a
specific topic (coinciding with the kinds of topics that one would typically
find in a newspaper). Students should work independently and coordinate their
efforts via email. In each team, the Austrian students will handle Vienna and
the American students New York, although everyone in the team is responsible for
both subjects - meaning students may assist each other in acquiring photos,
information, etc. Since each paper should have a German and English edition, the
teams will translate for one another. The webpage should be creative with
photograPMS, fonts, links, etc.
The final project will be presented in the form of a website designed by
students. Students will be responsible for the design and content of their
individual pages, including the proper function of links, etc.
