The Apollo Theater

September 1, 1904
With an auditorium holding 2000 people, the newly opened Apollo-Theater is the biggest and most modern theater building in Vienna. In 1903, the Apollo Construction Company purchased the plot of land on the corner of Gumpendorfer street and Kaunitz Lane. Here will be the biggest Variety Theater the Monarchy has ever constructed.  We hope that it succeeds in bringing earth-shaking stars to the Apollo Theater.

Today the giant amusement park, “Venice in Vienna” will open in Prater. Other attractions have been planned: the “International Town” will open in 1901, the “Flower Town” will open in 1902, and the “Electric Town” will open in 1903. The city of Vienna reckons that many tourists will come.

The Preparation of the “Hofball”

 February 17, 1891

In a few days the celebrated “Hofball” will open once again. Anyone with an invitation will be welcome. The “Kaiser” always uses the Ball to have casual conversations with ambassadors. The second party, the Ball at “Hof”, remains, on the other hand, only open to a small selected circle of the royal house and the high nobility.

On March 27 for the first time "Living Pictures" were presented.  The event took place at 45 Kärntner Street.  The tickets cost 50 Kreutzer.  There are showings  daily from 10 am until 8 pm.  Yesterday even the emperor visited the cinema.  The emperor was welcomed and led into the hall.  Afterwards, the hall was darkened and the pictures were projected on the white wall.  Children at the beach, the arrival of a train, and a collapsing wall were shown.  Our emperor was thrilled.

A View of Vienna in a Ferris Wheel

July 4, 1897
Yesterday afternoon the Viennese Giant Ferris Wheel operated for the first time.  With its height of 64 meters it is, in addition to St. Stephens Cathedral, one of Vienna's landmarks.  In each Ferris wheel car the passengers sit back to back on two long benches.  There are folding tables at the windows.  Passengers can take drinks on the ride with them because of the tables.  It is as calm as a balloon ride, where the ground appears to be sinking.  The wonderful view is fascinating.
