KangXi is known for promoting art and science.

Chinese Ports open to trade in 1685.

Spain occupies Texas in 1720.

(1736-1795)

“China occupies eastern Turkestan.”

JiaQing

(1796-1820)

Most famous for prosecuting his father’s Grand Minister, He Shen. (“JiaQing Emperor of China”) 

 

Napoleonic Wars wreak havoc on Europe.

DaoGuang

(1821-1850)

First opium wars. 1839 - 1842

California Gold Rush.

Photography invented.

 

Beginning of Taiping Rebellion.

 

 

XianFeng

(1851-1861)

Taiping Rebellion, Muslim rebellions in southwest and northwest.

Friction over issues surrounding state’s rights and slavery in America.

Attempted reform, but was not so successful because of his conservative mother – Empress Ci Xi.

Tried to institute 100 Days Reform. CiXi raised a coup. She just won’t die!

Reconstruction of the South.

E.D. Morel and Roger Casement head up the Congo reform movement.

XuanTong

(1908-1912)

Xinhai rebellion, emperor resigns but retains title.

 

 

 

Later reinstates himself for 12 days in 1917. Has to sign papers forfeiting imperial status. 

End of WWI.
