The carriage department displayed numerous such as a coach style, topless, and a fancier style. The middle and upper class were interested in viewing these carriages. Carriage fares were not inexpensive; therefore, people of the working class (who worked in factories) could not afford the luxury of riding in carriages. Carriages were used for transportation throughout cities. In earlier times they were used for longer transportation, but all of this changed when trains came about during the Industrial Revolution. Trains were then responsible for long distance transportation and carriages for shorter transportation. Carriages also benefited from the Industrial Revolution. The materials that were used for carriages were now being produced in factories. Raw materials such as Canadian Timber, another item on display, were used for the production of carriages.
