Mr. J. Gibbons Jun created this lock and key so that the Victorian houses would be safer. He claimed that it was much improved over the old locks and keys. This lock is made of strong iron to make it impossible to pick open. Each key only fits one lock so people cannot break into other homes that have the same style lock. The elaborate decoration makes it suitable for any door or gate. The lock is shaped like a castle with a column-like border inside it. The loops around the keyhole have an Islamic style, which comes from the British Empire's presence in N. Africa. |
