This is a walnut couch. The back appears to be divided into 3 main sections. Each of these sections are elegantly hand carved to proportion with the chair. On the top of each section there appears to be three different crests. On the couch there are three very fluffy pillows with elaborate tassels hanging off of the end of each corner. The armrests right down to the legs are richly carved and very elegant. The couch is in a conversational position. What that means is that is curves and almost forms a sort of “S” shape. These are used at dances so that people can carry on a conversation more easily, or one could read a book as part of getting a proper Victorian education. A couch like this could be easily mass-produced in a factory run by child laborers. Queen Victoria would be pleased to have a couch like this in her palace.
