Indian Exhibit was at the Crystal Palace to introduce the provincial British to the British Empire in India.  The main focus of the Indian exhibit was the stuffed elephant with a gold howdah.  The purpose of the elephant was to demonstrate the mode of transportation for wealthy visitors or dignitaries.  The British equivalent was trains. Also featured in the exhibit were Indian tea, pearls, and ivory.  The tea was the same tea that that the queen drank.  Although China did trade with Europe, they had no exhibit, and Indian tea was all that was displayed.  The ivory was a very limited resource because it came from the elephants.
